Andy Best was born in the South of England, 1963. Since 1988 he has lived
and worked in Helsinki, Finland. Merja Puustinen was born in Hamina, Finland,
1963. They have collaborated since 1993.
They work predominantly with the Internet and telecommunications. Major themes
include social and political issues such as racism, the global environmental
crisis, feminism, and multinational businesses. Multimedia artists Best &
Puustinen also produce and curate art events in the real and virtual world.
MEET Factory, founded in 1997, is a network-like organization focused on
developing content to convergent media and specialized on 3D multi-user
interactive environments.
MEET Factory productions: Conversations with Angels (1996-1998), 3D
multi-user environment on the Internet, telematic performances, websites,
installations. Other projects by Best & Puustinen: Design and construction
of the website for the Helsinki City Art Museum and the Kluuvi Gallery (1996
1997); RAX, site specific installation in the streets around Beaconsfield Gallery,
London (1996); Suburbarama Honeymoon, an investigation into suburban lifestyles
in Copenhagen (1996).
